How to update a Registration Plate for a Vehicle in the Portal

Updated over 2 weeks ago

This guide explains how to change your vehicle's registration plate in the portal.

⚠️ Important Limitation

For security and data integrity reasons, registration plates cannot be edited once created. The plate is the key identifier for parking payments and camera recognition.

👉 To update a plate, you must delete the old vehicle and add a new one with the correct plate number.

✅ When You Might Need to Update

  • You received a new license plate from the DMV

  • You moved to a new state/country

  • Your plate was damaged and replaced

  • You bought a new vehicle

  • You accidentally entered the wrong plate when registering

How to Update Your Registration Plate

Since registration plates cannot be directly edited, you'll need to delete the old vehicle and add a new one with the correct registration plate.

🔄 Step 1: Delete the Old Vehicle

1. Log in to your portal account

2. Open the Vehicles section in the main menu

3. Find the vehicle with the wrong plate

4. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the vehicle card

5. Select Edit

6. Scroll to the bottom → Delete Vehicle (red section)

7. Click Delete Vehicle

8. Review the warning (plate to be deleted, consequences, cannot be undone)

9. Confirm by clicking Yes, delete vehicle

⚠️ Deleting a vehicle will:

  • Remove it from your account

  • Erase its parking history

  • Cancel any active sessions

  • This cannot be undone

➕ Step 2: Add the New Vehicle

1. After deletion, return to the Vehicles list

2. Click Add Vehicle

3. Enter the details:

  • Registration Plate Number → exact and correct

  • Country Code → matches your plate’s country

  • Vehicle Name (optional, e.g., “Work Car”)

4. Set preferences:

  • Default Vehicle → if this is your main car

  • Automatic Payment → enables camera parking (requires saved payment method)

5. Click Add Vehicle to save

🔍 Step 3: Verify Your Vehicle

  • Check that the new vehicle appears in the list

  • Make sure the plate number is correct

  • Confirm your settings (default + automatic payment)

⏳ Alternative: Keep Both Vehicles Temporarily

If you need uninterrupted parking:

  1. Add the new vehicle without deleting the old one

  2. Start using the new one for parking

  3. Delete the old one once the new setup works

This approach ensures you don't lose access to parking services during the transition.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

“Registration plate already exists” error

  • Another vehicle in your account already has that plate

  • Delete duplicates if necessary

Automatic payment is not working

  • Ensure you’ve added a valid payment method

  • Confirm “Automatic payment” is enabled on the new vehicle

  • Double-check the plate is entered exactly as shown on your car

Camera parking is not recognising your vehicle

  • Verify plate format and country code

  • Remove extra spaces or characters

  • Contact support if issues persist

👉 Remember: You can’t edit plates directly. The delete-and-recreate method ensures your vehicle info is always accurate and ready for parking services.
